About the event
Come join us for the first (of many to come) Figure Drawing workshops at PAPYRJAM - this month, we'll be doing Martial Arts Figure Drawing, featuring a live model!
F.A.Q.
What is figure drawing? Is there a nude model?
Figure drawing refers to the practice of artists drawing from either photo reference or in-person models to refine the craft of rendering the human figure. While models are usually nude in art class settings, Figure Drawing workshops at PAPYRJAM will feature only clothed models - the goal is to draw from real-life experience, focusing on things like interesting costumes, different professions (from martial arts, to dance, to archery), and even fantastical beings (like mermaids)!
How does this work?
Everyone who participates in the workshop is expected to bring just themselves and their drawing tools of choice - if that's traditional or digital, that's up to you! We'll begin the workshop by getting introduced and talking about some of the ideas behind figure drawing for those who are beginners, and introducing the model of the afternoon. This will be a great time to ask questions specific to the model!
After, the model will pose in the middle of the room (aides are provided in the case of either more extreme or difficult poses), and everyone will pick a spot to draw from. Poses will start short - 30 seconds to 2 minutes - and slowly increase in length. At the end, everyone can share what they've been drawing!
Do I need to have experience with figure drawing prior?
Not at all!
I'm not sure if I want to draw - but I think I would like to model/I know someone who might be interested?
If you or someone you know might be a good fit for modeling for us in the future, please send us an email at papyrjam@gmail.com with the subject "Figure Drawing Model" with a few details about why you'd like to model for us. We'll respond within 3-5 business days and see if it's a good fit for our future drawing sessions!
How often will this be happening at PAPYRJAM?
Currently, the plan is to run at least one figure drawing workshop per month. If interest should increase, so will the figure drawing sessions! :^)
(Please note: this workshop is 18+.)
